Origin and History of Labor Day
Labor Day originates back to the late 19th century movement of workers across America, Haymarket square, for their rights, safety, and protection on May 1, 1886. Workers launched the strike and their first and foremost demand was an eight-hour working day. Before that, workers usually used to work 10 to 16 hours with little to no rest. The slogan raised “Eight hours for work, eight hours for rest, eight hours for what we will!” became the voice of the crowd.
The other issue raising within the workers was the income problem. The workers, especially the immigrant, were not given the salary they deserved, while the authorities were enjoying the profit. Workers were unable to provide a decent life to their family and themselves which created the unrest feelings among them.
In the beginning, protesters were calmly protesting and just wanted to grasp other people attention towards labor rights and working conditions. But as the rally progressed, the condition worsened. In short, some Individuals threw bomb at the police, who were there to disperse the crowd, which created chaos and destruction, but at last workers got their rights, and labors day is a proof.
